What Others Are Saying

I worked with Rob for 18 months through the W.K. Kellogg Foundation's Mid-South Delta Initiative to develop a 'Strategic Vision" for the Delta. Through that experience and relationship, I'm more than honored to say that Rob was the beacon for our success. Thought provoking, challenging, compassionate, articulate, strict attention to detail, engaging, humourous and a gifted leader are the qualities that Rob Benson posesses. Because of those qualities, we were successful in accomplishing our goal and I came away a better person.

Effective Meeting Management

High-value employees spend much of their time in meetings. Unfortunately, many meetings produce little added value to your company. When one considers the cost of labor for the meeting and how much does or does not get done in them, there is a huge performance improvement opportunity in learning how to structure and run meetings well.

A Reality-Based Technology, the Effective Meeting Management workshop teaches participants how to plan and conduct meetings that achieve specific objectives and do so as efficiently as possible. Participants learn:

  • Who to invite (and not invite) to the meeting
  • How to "set up" their attendees for focused participation
  • How to structure their meetings to resolve the most pressing issues
  • How to drive the meeting content
  • How to manage meeting participants
  • How to recognize and avoid meeting pitfalls
  • How to ensure accountabilities following the meeting, so that the work continues to progress
  • How to evaluate the meeting, so that meetings continue to improve over time
  • How to prepare for future meetings
  • Which meetings they can (and should) remove from their schedules

During the workshop, participants conduct a "practice" meeting to experience particular meeting dynamics, which are used as a base for concept learning, discussion and reinforcement. Later, they develop a detailed meeting plan for conducting their own meetings following the workshop.

Optional (Team Setting): If the workshop participants comprise an intact work team, they also choose specific meeting norms and then conduct a meeting to accomplish real work, with instructor coaching and feedback.
